Skiing at Alta

Alta is our favorite place to ski because there are no snowboarders (sorry to those of you who love to snowboard), and because it was founded by Norwegian Alf Engen who named Alta after a town in Norway (hopefully that helps Tor feel a little more at home?). Kristoffer and Erik are becoming much better skiiers, and I'm improving a bit as well, so we're venturing into more difficult terrain. It's a great way to spend the day together in the fresh air and beautiful surroundings, not to mention the excercise we're getting!

Finally, Hair Cuts!!!

Figures, Kristoffer's teacher would be the one to convince him to cut his hair! Not as short as I would like, but that's ok, it finally happened, and he was happy with it. Erik, on the other hand, was mad and depressed for several days after his trim. But he's gotten used to it and has decided it's a good length.

Snow Day

Christmas Fun

Christmas Day 2008 started out as it usually does. Kristoffer and Erik were awake at 6:00am, begging us to get up to open presents. After presents, we had a nice breakfast with waffles and eggs, and then we all played with our new toys. The boys played a Wii game, I played with my new iPhone, and Tor browsed through a book (sounds like he got the short end of the stick, doesn't it? He got a new ski jacket, sunglasses and a dvd, also). Then it was off to grandma's and grandpa's house for lunch and more gifts. We had a very nice day.

Annual Christmas Tree Hunt

Every year we go to Strawberry Reservoir with my family and cut christmas trees. The men gather wood and build a fire, the women make lunch (well, my sister, Sharon makes lunch - thanks Sharon!), and the kids sled and play in the snow. Tor missed it this year because he was in Norway (again!), so my brother-in-law, Mike, cut a tree for us. Thanks, Mike! It's such a great tradition, and we always have a good time together.

Pumpkin Patch

The Black Island Farms Pumpkin Patch was the place to pick pumpkins this year. We went with our good friends Brandi, Nate, Emilia and Oliver Lewis, and Avery and Sam Tucker on a beautiful fall day. The kids got lost in the corn maze and bumped around on the tractor ride, and had a great time finding the perfect pumpkins in the patch.

Disneyland and California Adventures

We went to southern California for my nephew's wedding, and spent 2 days at Disneyland and California Adventures. Both parks were decorated for Halloween, and we had a great time running around trying to ride all the rides and see all the fun things to see. We had never been to California Adventures before, and we couldn't get enough of the California Screemin' rollercoaster or the Tower of Terror ride. My sisters and their families were with us, and that made it even more fun!

Balboa

I remember spending time on Balboa Island when I was little, so we had to check it out while in California. We missed the busy summer season, but it was fun to walk around and see the sights.

Soccer Star

Erik is on a competition soccer team (Impact) with three of his good friends, and Tor is one of his coaches. It's a great experience for Erik to become a better soccer player, and he's having a lot fun playing. He's becoming quite the defender, saving many goal attempts by the other teams.

Our Guitar Hero

Kristoffer is taking a guitar class in school, and he's really enjoying learning how to play. He gets pretty silly sometimes pretending he's a rock star. He's got the hair for it, that's for sure!

Oktoberfest at Snowbird

Last weekend we decided to get out of the heat and go to Snowbird and were surprised to learn when we got there that it was the first day of Oktoberfest. We watched some dancing, listened to some music, ate some good food, and took a ride on the tram. When we got to the top of the tram we were treated to a perfomance by some men dressed in traditional German costumes playing alpine horns. Erik and Tor decided to hike down, while Kristoffer and I looked around and then took the tram down. At the bottom, Erik and Tor rode the Alpine slide, and then we headed home. It was a nice, relaxing day in the beautiful mountains.

Erik turned 11 and had a birthday party at Classic Skating. None of the kids skated, but they all had a great time playing tag in the bounce house and the jungle gym, arcade games, and lazer tag. Then it was back to our house for a hide and seek game called Grey Wolf throughout the neighborhood. I think the boys were pretty worn out by the time we took them home.

Kristoffer turns 13!

Wow! Our sweet baby boy has become a teenager! It's hard to believe Kristoffer will be starting junior high in the the fall. It's true what they say about how difficult it is to let your kids grow up. We just want to keep him close to us and protect him, but we know we have to let him venture out and experience life. He's a good boy, and he'll do well. He got his first cell phone for his birthday, which he was really excited about, and now he's texting with his friends like crazy! How did we ever survive without cell phones? For his birthday dinner, we went up Millcreek Canyon for a cookout. We ate, played some cards, went on a little walk, and made smores. It was nice to be up in the cool mountain air - Kristoffer said it was a good birthday.

Summer in Norway 2008

Tor and the boys went to Norway for two weeks to stay at the family cabin in Trondelag, near Trondheim. Tor's mom and siblings grew up in a house on the lake, and the families have built cabins around the house and barn as a summer getaway. They spent a lot of time fishing, and Erik caught his first fish! Kristoffer was lucky enought to catch 18 fish, and even decided it was pretty cool to gutt some of them. Other highlights of the trip included barbeques on the beach, golfing, hiking, whittling sticks, and making slingshots. It was a great trip, but I missed them like crazy!

The Police Concert

While Tor and the boys have been in Norway, I've been to a couple of concerts. Last Saturday I went to The Police concert, and it was the BEST concert I've ever seen in my life! Some of you know how much I love Sting, and even though I was on the lawn (I can't believe I didn't spend more money to get seats!), it was awesome! They had a jumbotron, and you could see almost every grey hair on Sting's scruffy beard. He just gets better looking with age. And as for the people who said they played like a bunch of 50 year olds - duh!!! They ARE 50 year olds (Sting is actually 56), but they rocked like there was no tomorrow. After the concert, I was actually thinking about going home and buying tickets to their next concert, but I decided I'm too old to be a groupie. Thanks again to my wonderful friend, Susan, for getting tickets!
